It's "Bandtober"!

It’s officially “Bandtober”! This week we have the MSU Homecoming Parade (Friday, October 9th) and the DeWitt Invitational (Saturday, October 10th), and next week we say goodbye to marching season with the Senior Night Game (Friday, October 16th).

A big thank you to all of the parent and student volunteers who helped make our 8th annual Mattress Sale Fundraiser a success! An update on the total funds raised will be sent out in next week’s updates. Funds raised will be used to support the band program and to help with New York Trip fees. We kicked off our next fundraising effort today with flyers going out for the poinsettia sale! See the information below.

MSU Homecoming Parade

Students will report to the band room after school on Friday, October 9th. We will have a brief rehearsal before boarding the buses to head to the parade route at 3 P.M. Dinner will be provided to our students courtesy of Michigan State University. The parade is scheduled to begin at 6 P.M. If you plan on watching, keep in mind that the event is free and open to the public, and very busy, so plan on either arriving very early or walking for a while. The parade is estimated to take between 45 minutes to an hour (possibly longer). With travel time in heavy traffic we are estimated to return to Fowlerville at around 8:15 P.M. If you are interested in chaperoning this event, please sign up on the band app. I am looking for two chaperones per bus (four total).

If you plan on picking your student up after the parade you must either 1) Email Mrs. Wiley ([email protected]) OR send a signed note with your student by Thursday, October 8th. Before leaving with your student the parent/guardian named in the note must check the student out with Mrs. Wiley OR Mr. Winright.

DeWitt Invitational

Part II of our busy upcoming weekend will be the Dewitt Invitational on Saturday, October 10th. Students will report to the school at 11 A.M. for a brief rehearsal. The buses will leave FHS at 12:15 P.M. We are in need of two chaperones per bus (four total). Please sign up on the band app. We are scheduled to perform at 2:15 P.M. at Dewitt High School. Awards are scheduled to begin at 4 P.M. The estimated return time for this event will be 5:45 P.M. Below is some information from the hosts:

Admission is $12 for adults, $10 for senior citizens, students, and children. We accept Credit/Debit cards for all purchases including; concessions, spiritwear, bake sale, etc. (There is a 3% charge will be added to card purchases)
Parking lots fill quickly for this event and there is a walk of approximately 10 minutes from the high school lot to the stadium. Please plan to arrive early to avoid missing your student’s performance.
Parking for the handicapped is available directly across from the stadium.

Poinsettia Sale

All band students were provided with a brochure and envelope for our poinsettia sale. Orders and payment are due by Thursday, October 22nd with the delivery window for ordered products being between November 30 and December 11th. There is a handy informational flyer included in the packet your student received that should answer most questions.

The Oscars: Calling all performers!

Our school is once again hosting The Oscars! This year’s event is on Tuesday, November 10th. In addition to performing as part of the band (this has been on our mandatory performance list as included in the handbook), we are looking for a few acts to perform between categories. Example acts could be: A dance group/solo dancer, beatboxing, solo/small group musical performance, stand up comedy, short skit, or other performing art. Please contact Mr. Welshner if you would like to audition.

New York City Trip

If you are ready to book a spot for your student, use this link! An adult must fill out the registration information. The first big deadline is November 1st to notify Mrs. Wiley of an intent to go on the trip (no need to reach out if you’ve already registered).
