FOWLERVILLE HIGH SCHOOL

LOCAL SCHOLARSHIPS FOR THE CLASS OF 2018

The following scholarships are offered to Fowlerville High School seniors who plan to enroll full time at a post-secondary college, university, or training program in the fall of 2018.  All scholarship applications (with the required copies of letters of recommendation) are due to Mrs. Stuible in the Counseling Office on or before Friday, March 2, 2018 by 2:30 pm.

The scholarships listed below use the Standard Application form and require (2) two letters of recommendation (unless noted otherwise) one of which must be from a current Fowlerville High School faculty member.  Any other requirements or considerations are listed after the scholarship title.


FOWLERVILLE ALUMNI  

 

FOWLERVILLE EDUCATION ASSOCIATION

Special consideration for those pursuing a career in education and/or a parent is a Fowlerville Community Schools employee

 

MARGARET VANGORDER SCHOLARSHIP

Minimum cumulative G.P. A. of 3.0

Applicant pursuing a career in education

Interview required for finalists

 

 GORDON AND GLADYS HARMON SCHOLARSHIP

Cumulative G.P. A. No greater than 3.5

Plan to attend a post-secondary college, university or training program in the state of Michigan

Special consideration for those pursuing a career in business, self-employment, or newspaper editor/reporter

Applicants cannot be related to Gladys M. Harmon or her children

 

ARDALE L. ALLSHOUSE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FOR NURSING

One letter of recommendation must be from a non-school employee

Applicant must intend to enroll in a nursing program

 

FOWLERVILLE BOARD OF EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP

Financial need will be considered

 

FOWLERVILLE FOOD & NUTRITION STAFF SCHOLARSHIP

Applicant plans to pursue a career in culinary arts, hospitality, dietetics, nutrition or other food service related field

200-word essay required to express student goals and why this field was chosen

 

THE AMERICAN RED CROSS SCHOLARSHIP

Minimum cumulative G.P.A. of 2.5

Document (chart or letter) of minimum of 20 community service hours

Essay about "What community service you have done throughout high school and how it has impacted your life?"

 

THE BRADY FAMILY SCHOLARSHP

Special consideration for those pursuing a degree/certification in a trade/technical or vocational field such as law enforcement or a fire academy

G.P.A. will not be considered

 

THE MAISON Z. WILKINSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Applicant must be a current or former FHS soccer player

 

THE FOWLERVILLE ROTARY SERVICE AWARD

Minimum cumulative G.P.A. of 3.0

THE CARRIE M. KUNDE MEMORIAL SCHOLARHIP

Minimum cumulative G.P.A. of 3.0

Applicant plans to pursue a career involving mathematics

Special consideration for those entering a business/mathematic related field such as accounting or finance etc.

THE DR. SAM DANIELS VOCATIONAL EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP

Minimum cumulative G.P.A. of 2.5

Applicant plans to attend a vocational or trade school

One or two page typed essay expressing the applicant's educational plans after high school

 

THE GEORGE AND ILAH MAE DAMMAN SCHOLARSHIP

Minimum cumulative G.P.A. of 3.0

Have a demonstrated record of involvement in one or more of the following activities:  community projects or student government, member of the Fowlerville High School organized sports (boys or girls), active member of 4-H, home economics or other agricultural group, active member of a high school arts program, such as music or drama

Special consideration for those who intend to pursue studies in any field related to agriculture, child development, government administration or the arts

FOWLERVILLE HIGH SCHOOL DRAMA SCHOLARSHIP

Minimum cumulative G.P.A. of 2.5

Student must have been involved in a minimum of two FHS Drama productions, either as an actor or on crew

Essay is required, choose from one of the following prompts:

How has being involved in theatre improved/impacted your life?

How do the performing arts, either from the point of view of spectator or performer, make life richer?

 

TECHNICAL THEATRE SCHOLARSHIP

Letters of recommendation are optional.

Must have completed training and requirements for academic letter in FHS technical theatre club (tech club).

Training and service requirements include: two years of service equal to 50 hours per year, regularly attend weekly meetings September through June, participate in training and regular training updates, must have no disciplinary issues and remain in compliance with the policies of Fowlerville High School student code of conduct.

Scholarship recipient would have demonstrated leadership abilities beyond basic requirements for club membership and dedication to the arts at Fowlerville High School and the Alverson Center for Performing Arts.

Student pursuing advanced study in technology, performing arts, technical theatre, or technology or arts education.

STUDENT COUNCIL SCHOLARSHIP

Applicant must have been a member of student council

Selection based on g.p.a., honors, activities, and career plans

 

ORSON A. ROSE, POST 215 AMERICAN LEGION SCHOLARSHIP

Special consideration for financial need

 

FOWLERVILLE SCHOOLS BUS DRIVERS’ SCHOLARSHIP

Applicant is pursuing training in an automotive related field

150-word essay expressing career goals and why this field of study was selected

 

FOWLERVILLE VISUAL ARTS SCHOLARSHIP

Minimum cumulative G.P.A. of 2.5

Must have taken Art I, II, and III.

Must be attending an art college and/or majoring in art at a college or university.

Must provide a list of all art related activities participated in during high school.

Must have participated in the "Scholarship Alert" for at least one year during high school.

Essay is required:  How have the arts improved or impacted your life and the community around you?

PHIBBS FAMILY “GOOD-KID” SCHOLARSHIP

Applicant displays good-heartedness in school and the community

Applicant is an exceptional human being with extraordinary kindness and compassion

THE LANCE CPL. MICHAEL W. HANKS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

An essay is required, specific topic choices listed on the application

DAN KREBS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Minimum cumulative G.P.A. of 2.5

Applicant is pursuing a career in agriculture, mechanics, or carpentry

 

FRANK ABBOTT SCHOLARSHIP

Letters of recommendation cite volunteer or community service work done by the applicant

Member of the current graduating class of fowlerville high school

At least one parent, grandparent, or great-grandparent must be have been a fhs graduate

At least one parent, grandparent, or great-grandparent must have been a veteran of the u.s. armed services honorably discharged

Scholarship money is not to be used for a music major

FIRST NATIONAL BANK SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship is open to any high school senior residing in Livingston County. Scholarship proceeds must be used for post high school academic or vocational education. For 2018, First National Bank will fund up to ten scholarships of $1,000 each. These are one-time, non-renewable awards.
Scholarship selection criteria:
Your academic achievement – minimum 3.0 GPA
Your community Service
Your extra-curricular activities and/or after school job
Note –Your community service involvement, after school job and/or extra-curricular participation is of particular interest. Please provide details when listing and describing these. Given the reviewer may not be familiar with some of the clubs or activities, you are also encouraged to provide information such as its purpose, etc.
An essay you will write as part of your scholarship application
Recommendation letters – 2 required with at least one from someone not connected with your school
Any special circumstances or challenges you overcame to graduate from high school

1st National Community Scholarship

 

LIVINGSTON COUNTY WOMEN’S CLUB SCHOLARSHIP

One student from Livingston County who is planning to enter the field of human services will be chosen to win this scholarship (requirements)

Applicants must:

Be a permanent resident of Livingston County

Include transcript that shows a GPA of 3.0 or higher

Submit 2 letters of rec

Submit a 500-word essay entitled “Why I have chosen a career in human services”

Must submit resume including community service, extracurricular activities, academic or civic honors, and work experience

 

WHMI 93.5 FM SCHOLARSHIP

Student who pursues post-secondary education leading to a career in any of the following areas:

Radio broadcasting

Broadcast news/journalism

Broadcast engineering

Broadcast sales and marketing

BRODY DANGER ROCCO MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Celebrates high school students impacting young lives through their involvement in activities focused on creating/fostering positive environments and experiences for children

THE CHRIS TYLE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Intended for prospective college students who have participated in both theater and athletics and have proven themselves to be outstanding team players.

Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.

Been involved as an actor or crew member in at least two Fowlerville High

School Drama productions.

Been a member of a least one FHS junior varsity- or varsity-level sports team.

Two letters of recommendation.

Essay answering the following question in 500 words or less:

What being involved in theater and athletics taught you about teamwork and how will you apply what you have learned toward your future education?
